St. Clare’s Hospice provides 24 hour care, 7 days per week in our 8 bedded inpatient unit.

Seven beds are dedicated to treatment while the remaining bed is kept for respite care.

What is Hospice Care?

Hospices care for the whole person, aiming to meet all needs, physical, emotional, social and spiritual for the person who is facing the end of life and for those who love them.

Almost half of all people admitted return home again. The average length of stay is 13 days. All care is free of charge.

Within the Hospice you will find a range of services – a skilled clinical team, pain control, symptom relief, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, spiritual care, psychology, complementary therapies, lymphoedema, access to social services and bereavement support.

Staff and volunteers work in a multi-professional team to provide care based on individual need and personal choice, striving to offer freedom from pain with dignity, peace and calm. All rooms are of single occupancy for complete privacy.

What to expect?

Rather than being in charge, staff and volunteers try to be alongside the person, as a friend for the journey. They aim to help the person live life to the full, for whatever time they have left – no matter how long or how short.

If you are in our care, you can expect:

* To be valued and given time
* To be accorded respect, privacy and dignity
* To be responded to with empathy, especially when in distress
* To be listened to and for communication to be sensitive and honest
* To be shown understanding of your individual belief, lifestyle and culture.

Respite Care

We offer planned respite for patients with a life limiting illness which is primarily to give the carer a break from home circumstances. Respite stays are for 1-2 weeks to a maximum of 6 weeks per year.
