Our Bereavement Counselling Service is provided by qualified volunteer counsellors who are based at the Hospice. The team consists of female and male counsellors and is a valued local service.

How can I arrange to see someone?

Referrals to the service can be made by:

* Health Care Professionals (GP’s etc)
* Family Members
* Self-Referral
* Each referral is followed up within one week.

All referrals can be made by telephone 0191 451 6378

What Happens next?

Acknowledgement of referrals is sent out within 1 week and added to the waiting list. The Service Co-ordinator, who is also a volunteer will monitor referrals against the referral criteria and will assign a counsellor. The counsellor will contact the client, usually by telephone to arrange an appointment. The service will be explained and a contract for 10 sessions will be agreed.

The number of sessions varies from one person to the next some might only need a few, whilst others may need to be seen for longer.
